Riku Paakkonen founded Spinefarm Records late 1980's. as a mail order company for music. Expanded to distributing independent labels in Finland and eventually releasing recorded music.

With punk rock movement of mid 90's were able to finance more releases on own. Soon came the first releases By Children Of Bodom, Nightwish etc which were defining acts of finnish hard rock movement.

By early 2000's Spinefarm Records had appr 5% market share of recorded music market in Finland which got some major labels interested in the company.
In 2003 majority of the company was sold to Universal Music Group. At the time I made a commitment to stay at the company for five years.

Left Spinefarm early 2011 to focus on taking some time off, travelling, running and other things that has intressed me.

Early 2013 returned to music business with a new label Ranka Kustannus. Since then been building the catalogue.

The roster is now a bit over 10 artists. Potential future hopes are super talented progressive metal band Arion and folk-pop artist Anna Kokkonen.

Currently the label roster consists of appr 10 artists and expansion is going on.
Ranka is distríbuted by Warner Music (except UK by Plastic Head and G/S/A by Soulfood).

In late 2013 I started at advisory role at music start-up www.bandontheweb.com.

Ranka Kustannus is a new finnish music label formed by Spinefarm Records
(home of Nightwish, Children Of Bodom, Sonata Arctica etc.) founder Riku Pääkkönen.

After few spells at Universal Music Pääkkönen decided to return to what he likes most,
working with new exciting music. The label will release pop and rock music for domestic and international markets.
